Sadiaa Black Beauty Guide has emerged as the premier Black-owned beauty directory and digital platform celebrating Black-owned beauty brands. In 2018, it launched as the only searchable directory dedicated to Black-owned hair and beauty brands and services in the U.S. Since then, it has expanded to serve as more than a directory. It is a one-stop Black hair and beauty resource, including a news portal with Black-owned beauty business profiles, news, resources, along with networking events and marketing tools.
To date, the directory has more than 600 Black-owned owned beauty brands listed — including 250+ beauty supply stores.
Users can search the growing directory by name, city, zip code, and category. Categories include hair, body and skincare, makeup, fashion, health & wellness, nails, and more. The directory also gives businesses the ability to amplify their reach to an active and engaged audience seeking their services.
The site is the brainchild of Black beauty editor and developer Stephenetta (isis) Harmon who was tired of creating and digging through lists to find Black-owned brands and products.
“The business of Black beauty rakes in upwards of $500 billion annually,” says Harmon, who also serves as digital media director for Hype Hair magazine. “Black women outspend every demographic in beauty, drive markets, and influence household purchasing decisions, yet we are the least considered and the least visible when it comes to resources, product choices, services, and marketing,” she continues.
“When I first launched this directory in 2018, there were no directories focused on all aspects of Black beauty. This was frustrating to me, as both an editor and a consumer,” Harmon adds. “In light of recent events, it is encouraging to see more consumers make a concerted effort to seek out and support Black-owned brands — and to see more resources made available to us. My goal is for Sadiaa Black Beauty Guide to serve as a passport to and digital ecosystem highlighting Black beauty that extends beyond searching to sharing stories and supporting the beauty brands that we purchase.”
Sadiaa currently has listed more than 600 businesses, including more than 250 Black-owned beauty supply stores. The site offers both free and paid listing options for businesses, as well as advertising options and access to BlackBeautyWire.com, a press release hub for Black beauty announcements.
In addition, Sadiaa hosts Black Beauty Mixers to connect, educate and empower beauty entrepreneurs as well as Black Beauty Bazaars to create shopping experiences to support their brands.
